Conclusion

This module on Communicating with Families has provided several teacher-tested practices for creating and sustaining positive relationships between teachers and families.

Now that you’ve explored a wide variety of options and strategies for communicating with families, how might you answer these questions differently?

  • What culturally responsive approaches can be implemented to effectively engage diverse families in the instructional program?
  • What strategies can be used for responding to family concerns and inviting family participation?
  • How can student involvement in the process of designing informational materials strengthen teacher/family relationships?

This communication can take the form of a learning log, class newsletter, course outline, syllabus, a form that can be used as part of a family conference, and so on. The informational piece should include an area for a description of how students will contribute to the communication or process using any instructor-approved program.

Submit the project (or website url for online projects).

Part II:

In a well-developed paragraph of approximately five to seven sentences, describe the thinking that was involved in the development of this piece. What considerations were made in an effort to effectively communicate with diverse families?
