Integrating Lifelong Learning

In this course, we have examined the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Standards Aligned System (SAS) and how it is a comprehensive approach that aligns Interventions, Materials and Resources, Instruction, Curriculum Framework, Fair Assessments and Clear Standards to support student achievement. We have also explored how to use SAS to tailor instruction to develop critical thinking skills that students will need throughout their lives. In this module we will examine some of the challenges that you may face in fully taking advantage of all that SAS has to offer. We are also going to challenge you to really think about how you can help your students become lifelong learners.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this module, you will be able to:

  • Evaluate the Standards Aligned System and propose how you could use it to bridge the gap that exists between what many current graduating seniors know, and the qualities that higher educational institutions and employers look for in candidates.
  • Summarize what you have learned about the Standards Aligned System and develop a plan to ensure that students are prepared for their futures.
  • Create and submit a finalized lesson plan that is fully aligned to the Standards Aligned System.
