Learning Activity C-1

Instructional Strategies
Assignment Objective:
  • Identify instructional strategies that are best suited to help students achieve the expected performance.

Assignments
20 points Rubric (15/20 points required to pass)

Visit YouTube or TeacherTube and search for and watch videos that are most appropriate to your grade level and subject. Please be sure to cite your video selection in your response. If your educational role involves supporting students outside of the classroom, choose the videos that are of interest to you. Comment on what you have seen in Assignment C-1.

  • Identify the instructional strategies that the teacher uses in their classroom.
  • Explain how the instructional strategies help students develop higher-level thinking skills.
  • Discuss the teacher’s approach to utilizing the instructional strategies and comment on how you might incorporate some of their ideas into your instruction or articulate how you will support others' instruction based on what you notice.

Your response must be at least two double-spaced pages. If you are typing your response directly into the Assignments Tool, include at least five developed paragraphs.

  • Incorporate at least two instructional strategies learned in this course within a unit or lesson plan.

Write a unit or lesson plan based on the criteria below:

  1. Write a unit or lesson plan to integrate at least two instructional strategies you have learned about in this course and teach the unit or lesson to your students. If your educational role involves supporting students outside of the classroom, create a unit or lesson that you could share with another teacher.
  2. Be sure to include aligned Pennsylvania Academic Standards within your lesson.
  3. Write a two-page reflection that relays how the strategies you utilized helped to engage your students and reinforce understanding. **If you are not currently teaching, predict how the strategies you integrated in your lesson or unit would promote engagement and reinforce understanding. Be sure to provide specific examples.
  4. Evaluate how your lesson may have had different outcomes if you did not incorporate the selected instructional strategies. **If you are not currently teaching, predict how your lesson outcomes would be different without the incorporated strategies.
